Gun Rights

America is well known for arguing about what is right.  Our history is filled with people struggling and fighting to gain their rights as American citizens.   But for the first time in our history we have an argument on weather we should take away our right to bear arms.   The country is split in half.   Many believe that they have the right to own a gun for their own safety.   While others believe that it is now time to take away guns from the general public due to all the mass gun shootings that have arisen.

Constitutional Framework

The right to bear arms has been felt to be correct by many.   There have been many political theorists who believe or have believed in this right.   Theorists such as Cicero of ancient Rome, John Locke of England and Jean Jacques Rousseau of France.   These Three men all believe that the right to have arms is a part of our symbolism of freedom.   Many people today say that if these great theorists and our great Founding Fathers believed in our right to bear arms; why should they be taken away?

Statistics

America has an estimated 270 million firearms.   This means there are 90 guns to every 100 people.   Guns kill approximately 30,000 Americans each year and injure 70,000.   Also it is found that 400,000 crimes are committed using guns each year.

As shown on the chart the American people do want change.  They want stricter gun laws to be placed so that these weapons will stay out of the wrong hands.   But this does not mean they want guns to be illegal to own.   As Americans we want to keep our right to bear arms!

Conclusion

After extensive research on the topic of gun control I can confidently say that I understand what the American people want.   The statistics show that America does indeed have a gun problem.
And our media broadcasters are great at showing the nation what may happen when guns land in the hands of the wrong people.   In the wrong hands guns could cause chaos, but in the hands of the responsible they can be used for just protection.  Statistics also show that Americans don't want to loose the right to bear arms; they just want to make laws to prevent those who will abuse their right, from owning a weapon.
